This paper describes the development of algorithms to determine the species concentration in Post-Combustion gases by absorption spectroscopy. Absorption spectroscopy using tunable diode lasers provides a cost-effective and non-intrusive way to determine the concentration of H_2O, CO, CO_2 and NO in the exhaust gas streams. For each species, wavelength suitable for absorption spectroscopy is determined using the spectra distributions of the species provided in the HITRAN database. Inverse method is used to determine the concentration profile of each species from absorption measurements. The results of the paper provide the foundation to develop dynamic diagnostic instrument to measure the concentration of gaseous species in hostile environments such as furnaces, industrial burners, and stacks.
