The electric field and voltage distributionsrnalong dry and wet composite insulators are calculatedrnusing COULOMB, a three-dimensional electric fieldrnanalysis software package. These distributions arerncalculated first for dry and clean insulators. Then,rnsince the electric field distribution is distorted by thernpresence of water droplets on the surface of therninsulators, these distributions are also calculated forrnwet insulators. The wet cases analyzed will be basedrnon certain stages of the hydrophobicity classificationrnrecommended by the Swedish Transmission ResearchrnInstitute. Electric field and equipotential lines andrnelectric field enhancement factors on the surface ofrnwater droplets are presented.
