Abstract: The Fiber Channel (FC) being defined by the ANSI X3T9.3 task group provides a general transport vehicle for a number of upper level protocols. Interconnection of Fiber Channel nodes is accomplished using the Fiber Channel Fabric which is being defined by the FC Fabric Special Subject Working Group (SSWG). This paper discusses the general concepts of a fabric, describes the various fabric topologies being considered, and discusses some of the characteristics of a fabric. !5
