摘要

The process of depositing a multilayer matrix on the Nextel 720~(TM) woven fibre was investigated. The inner coating layer was zirconia which acted as a reaction barrier and interface debond coating. The layer was deposited using dip coating combined with an electrostatic attraction technique; a further deposition of protective alumina overlayed the zirconia layer using a novel electrophoretic filtration deposition (EFD) technique. Such in-house electrophoretic sol infiltration techniques are effective in depositing the fibre/matrix interphase and in fully infiltrating the intra-fibre tow regions with matrix materials. Microstructural analysis was undertaken to examine the each infiltration stage in the deposition process.
