The importance of clinical diagnoses in the prediction of performance on computer-based tasks for low vision users

These results represent basic research aimed at determining the role of visual profiles in evaluations of psychomotor task performance requiring the identification and selection of visual icons. The significant contributions of these visual dimensions on a representative collection of dependent variables emphasize the validity of the assertions made in this paper. Researchers need to investigate low vision computer users' performance armed with the knowledge of their visual profiles to completely characterize subjects' visual capabilities and limitations. Specific aspects of visual dysfunction can be linked to strategies employed by low vision computer users. This has been demonstrated for basic human-computer interaction tasks like visual icon identification and selection. Such advances move us closer to the goal of universal accessibility of information technologies.
