This paper presents an overview of rockbust studies at China University of Mining and Technology Beijing's (CUMTB's) state key laboratory for GeoMechanics & Deep Underground Engineering. These studies are committed to the innovation of laboratory testing devices, data processing frame work, and rockburst pretension methods. For faithful modeling of rockbursts at the excavation boundary, a true triaxial test system, i.e. Underground Rockburst Analogue Test Machine (DURATM)was developed,which can transfer a stress state from three-direction-compression on six surfaces to the compression on five surfaces with one set free. A frame work for identification of the time-frequency nature of AE signals from varied rockbursts were proposed in term of the Spectral DNA (SDNA), which have been used to discriminate the dominant frequency bandwidth (DFB) for the different rock types. A novel anchor device, i.e. the large deformation cable with constant-resistance (LDCR) were developed for accommodating the large displacement of the surrounding rock masses and absorbing the impact by sudden release of rockburst while output a constant resistant force in responding to the external load. LDCR has found its role in the practical applications in the underground mines.
