One intends to use the former salt mine comprising the mine fields of Bartensleben and Marie in Germany as a repository for low-level and intermediate-level non-heat-generating radioactive waste. To be granted the necessary licenses for the operation as a repository, proof of long-term safety is required. To be able to delay a mobilization and the transport of radionuclides in case of an inflow of saline solutions for the long term, the proof of long-term safety is also based on technical measures in the formof sealing structures.As these sealing structures are no standard civil engineering structures, the functional capability of the sealings in rock salt is to be demonstrated in an in-situ test. First measurements at the test structure showed good agreement with assumptions made. On account of the geo-mechanical behavior of the main anhydrite which is different from that of rock salt, an in-situ test for this formation is also to be carried out.
