PROCESSING OF SOME METALLURGICAL WASTES IN TURKEY

Various kinds of zinc waste materials will arise from various processes using zinc metal, or from the production routes of the metal itself. In this paper, first the processing of electrolytic zinc plant solid wastes such as copper cake to recover germanium and other valuable metals will be discussed. The results of laboratory, pilot plant and full plant test results will be given. The other solid wastes generated by electrolytic zinc plant that need to be processed will be also brought into attention. The second zinc waste materials to be mentioned are brass ashes and dust Thermal treatment of these materials to recover zinc and copper will be discussed. Finally, other metallurgical wastes generated in Turkey at historical times or more recently will be mentioned. Possible solutions for the recovery of cobalt from the historical slags of Kiire, gold recovery from jewellery wastes, reclamation of chromium from the ferrochromium slags will be summarized.
