The pyrolysis technology applied to selected kinds of waste, like tyres and plastics, can be an alternative source to fossil fuels of raw materials or energy products.In this study, a laboratory batch reactor was used to perform experiments on single pyrolysis of tyres at 0.41Mpa and about 420℃. Mass yields of gases and liquids were measured giving about 15% and 35%, respectively. In order to improve the liquid fraction, experiments were conducted with some hydrogen donor solvents (tetraline, decaline and tetrahydroquinoline), which greatly increased gases and liquids yields. Due to the high price of these solvents, alternatives based on some types of CH-plastics (polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene) were studied giving a rise in mass yields gases and liquids of about 18% and 56% respectively. Results obtained with several solvents with different H-donor capacities and main conclusions will be presented and discussed in the paper.
