摘要

In the present work, the authors investigated the sorption behaviour of the heavy metal cadmium ion, and correlate the distribution of this serious pollutant (Cd~(2+)) in the landfill, which has been accumulated in the neighbourhood of the aforementioned plant during its more than 20 years of operation up to its discontinuation, in 1999. A chemical study of the landfill disposal provided an interpretation of and its relation to particle size of the soil components, its bio-sorption by local vegetation, the desorption process by acid rain and consequent redistribution in soil and natural water systems. On the base of this study a proposal has in view to recover the area for settlement.
