In our previous studies concerning the reprocessing of the complex polymer waste containing among other components isotactic polypropylene (IPP), polyamide 6 (PA6), ethylene-propylene-diene-termonomer (EPDM), it has been established that it is necessary to add suitable reactive compatibilizing agerts such as IPP functionalised with different polar monomers to obtain a good adhesion at interface [1]. In this study, the phase behaviour was followed by optical microscopy in ordinary and polarized light in the heating/cooling cycles and by differential scanning calorimetry, both melting and crystallization phenomena being studied. The effect of the type and amount of the compatibilizing agent on the phase separation of the IPP/PA6/EPDM blends was analyzed. The rheological and mechanical properties are strongly dependent on phase separation. The correlation of the phase behaviour with the variation of the properties allows the selection of the optima composition, the type of reactive compatibilizer and processing procedure to obtain materials with satisfactory properties from multicomponent polymer materials both from virgin polymers and polymer waste.
