Tailings are main wastes of copper mining operations. Most copper tailings in China are disposed in tailings dams. Chinese copper mines have piled up huge amount of tailings. The copper reserve in tailings reached more than two million tons of copper. As further exploiting of copper mines, the good resources, which are easy to treat with mineral processing, will become less and less avaiable. Copper tailings are becoming valuable for copper recovery. This paper presents some pilot experiments and process ceveloping for copper tailings of some Chinese copper mines with the hydrometallurgical process "leaching - solvent extraction - electrowinning".
