Subsurface Penetrating Radar (SPR) is increasingly used for the investigation of unknown structures. For the interpretation of these measurements it is essential to understand the radar response of possible targets. A typical target is the metallic cylinder such as the reinforcement bar in concrete or the metallic pipe in the soil. In this paper the radar response of these targets - in the following summarized by the term "thin wire" - is calculated in the time domain using the transmission line theory. The presented analytical formulas enable to calculate either the scattered electric and magnetic field or the current on the radar target and on the receiver antenna.
