This paper aims at presenting the overview of the construction procedures and interpretation of testrnresults from many test plain and shaft-grouted friction barrettes which were carried out in Vietnam since 2005. Allrnof these plain and shaft grouted barrettes for each specific project were fully instrumented with strain gauges andrnextensometers for analysis of shaft friction and settlement of the barrette. From the back-analysis of test results andrnreferred papers, the ultimate shaft friction resistance of shaft grouted barrette was significantly increased comparedrnto those values of plain test barrette results. The enhanced shaft friction achieved by this technique allows us tornincrease significantly in pile bearing capacity and hence, a number of barrettes for each project would be reducedrnand founding depth of barrette would be shorten in comparison with traditional bored pile and/or plain barretternoption. In addition, shaft grouting of mass piling for many projects is found to provide a robust and economicalrndesign alternative.
