This paper presents some recent work and ideas related to the development of the computational platform for inelastic, static and dynamic simulations in geome-chanics. The computational platform is known as the Open System for Earthquake Engineering Simulations (OpenSees) and has a number of developers and contributors. This paper focuses on developments related to the computational geomechanics research group from UC Davis, led by the author. Important formulation issues are discussed, but the focus is more on presenting current capabilities. A number of references with in depth treatment of background theories and formulations is presented as well.
