Although extensive restoration works took place at Athens’ Acropolis during the last decades, it was only 2006 that Institute of Geodynamics, National Observatory of Athens (NOAIG) and Acropolis Restoration Service (YSMA) cooperated towards the seismic instrumentation of the site aiming to study the response of the monuments against an earthquake.rnA brief description of the installation phase is presented here, showing the techniques used to overcome the difficulties and the special characteristics of the archaeological site. Characteristic records from various earthquakes are processed, showing the complex properties of the hill and the monuments. Although no strong earthquake occurred in near field during the up-to-now operation of the array, specific records are processed and presented. Furthermore, some comments are presented for the Tohoku 2011 and Van 2011 earthquake records. The ambient noise monitoring via PQLX software can also lead to some useful results concerning structural properties of the Parthenon and local characteristics of the artificial fillings installation. Selected strong motion records are used for the monument response analysis within the frame of an earthquake resistant design. 2-D nonlinear analyses along a characteristic section of the Acropolis were also performed for a preliminary calibration of the dynamic properties of the geomaterials.
