Geotextile reinforced embankment constructed over deep mixed soil columns was analyzed for settlements using a finite element based Plaxis program. The embankment over treated soft clay was considered as two-dimensional plane strain problem. Soil materials were modeled as a linearly elastic perfectly plastic material following Mohr Coulomb failure criteria. Average settlement under the embankment was also estimated using a simplified analytical procedure. Predicted settlement results from finite element software, analytical procedure and available literature models were presented in this paper along with measured values. Comparison of above results showed that the numerical FEM program Plaxis predicted settlements that are close to the measured settlements. Variations among the methods predictions and possible reasons for these variations are explained.
