A significant body of research is available that establishes (1) flow rates of manure liquors through soil structures, (2) flow rates of clean water through defects in geomembranes, (3) likely number of defects in installed geomembranes, and (4) biological clogging factors for municipal solid waste (MSW) leachate flowing through geomembrane defects. However, little research has been conducted to quantify flow rates of cattle manure liquor through defects in geomembranes. A pressurized tank was fitted with a replaceable geomembrane sample to simluate a variety of hydraulic head conditions with fresh water and wastewater. A series of tests measurements were made for clean water and dairy manure liquor under various conditions. Flow correlated with Bernoulli modeling, but reduced with lagoon liquor, completely ceasing through small defects. Biological clogging factors were established for liquor leakage through defects in the geomembrane liner to be used in design evaluations
