Reinforced retaining walls have a ductile characteristic thus increasing the stability as the wall deforms. The deformation of the wall should be properly predicted to establish a rational design method for the reinforced retaining walls. The sliding block analysis proposed by Newmark is a useful tool for calculating seismic displacements of a slope because of its simplicity, leading to save labor of calculation. In this paper, the Newmark's method expanded to use the multi layered blocks was newly proposed and verified by the comparison with the results of centrifuge model tests conducted on reinforced retaining walls with multiple surface plates. The results show that the displacements with the expanded model of Newmark's method were good agreement with the experiments. In addition, the multi layered blocks were confirmed to show tilting deformation mode.
