Starting from the development and studying progression of Prony transformation, this paper expatiates the principle of the absorptive attenuation filtering method based on Prony transformation and the calculating method of amplitude, phase, frequency and absorption coefficient, derives the Prony transformation and correlative equations. This paper proves from the theory that the absorptive attenuation filtering method based on Prony transformation adopts the methods of damping harmonic wave to decompose the signal and nonlinear filtering to calculate the absorptive coefficient of the geological body, is much super than the Fourier transformation method which adopts the methods of linear filtering and calculates the absorptive coefficient indirectly, and embodies the frequency character of the media more objectively and thus improves the resolution of time and space, especially shows the media characters in high frequency zone, and is more propitious to advance the estimating and interpretation precisions of the reservoir characters and gassiness. This paper illustrates the application of Prony absorptive attenuation filtering technology in work area of compact lithology in the west of SICHUAN, concludes the cognition method of the absorptive attenuation anomaly of this work area, and detects the feasibility and dependability of Prony absorptive attenuation filtering technology from the practice.
