The equations that describe the macroscopic transport of a solution containing arnbinary electrolyte through a semi-permeable membrane are derived following thernapproach of the Thermodynamics of Irreversible Processes. This approach for therndescription of the macroscopic transport of the solution doesn't provide any physicalrninterpretation of the phenomena involved. As a result, a macroscopic transport modelrnable to provide a physical interpretation of the phenomenological parameters isrnproposed. Such a model is able to explain the dependency, observed in laboratoryrnexperiments, of the chemico-osmotic efficiency coefficient,ω, on the soluternconcentration, Cs, and to explain the dependency of the other experimentalrnparameters on ω.
