In this paper we present the results of the application of the SRICOS-EFA method forcumulative pier scour and contraction scour at two bridge sites in Alabama. Alsoincluded in the present paper is a differential analysis of cumulative contraction scourbased on the simplifying assumption of a long contraction in which the flow is nearlyuniform. The long-contraction assumption results are compared with the field data aswell as the results of the SRICOS-EFA method. The comparisons indicate significantdifferences between the ultimate scour depths predicted by the different approaches. The results support that taking into account the transient response of cohesive soils isvery important for scour prediction.
