For single antenna nodes, cooperative communication can be implemented where multiple cooperative transmissions from source node and relay node to a determination node enable to exploit spatial diversity in two-hop relay wireless networks. However, when automatic repeat request (ARQ) is integrated into multihop relaying, a challenge for an uncoded cooperation system is to design simple protocols to collect distributed spatial diversity over block fading relay channels. This paper presents simple cooperative protocols in conjunct with conventional ARQ. Then, we compare their performance with direct transmission by means of simulation. It is shown that in certain locations the extension to the original cooperative protocols can achieve remarkable performance gain over direct transmission in block fading channels.
