Fullerene-containing polyesters have been prepared by polycondensation of a bifimctional fullerene adduct with tetraethyleneglycol. The molecular weights of these polymers have been determined by size-exclusion chromatography coupled with light scattering. In addition, linear polymers alternating oligophenylenevinylene (OPV) moieties and C_(60) subunits have also been prepared by polycondensation of the bifunctional fullerene derivative with an OPV monomer bearing two alcohol functions. These linear copolymers represent a new class of macromolecular donor-acceptor systems with potential for photovoltaic applications.
