At the conditions of atmospheric, 180℃, using a molecular sieve adsorbent of Type 5A, normal paraffin has been separated out from naphtha by a multi-step vapor phase adsorptive-separation process. The concentration of normal paraffin in extract was increased from 27% in naphtha feedstock to 88% or higher by weight; the recovery of normal paraffin was greater than 95%; the content of normal paraffin in raffinate was less than 1.0% by weight. The extract effluent that is rich in normal paraffin has been used as the feedstock of steam cracker, the yield of ethylene has been increased from 28% to 38%. If the raffinate effluent with normal paraffin depleted would be used as the feed of catalytic reformer, the yield of aromatic or C_5~+ gasoline would be increased. The using of normal paraffin adsorptive-separation technology for naphtha can optimize the feed composition of steam cracker and catalytic reformer, and improve the economics of these units.
