Energy Efficient Massive Data Dissemination Protocols for the International Network of Things

Data dissemination provides data that matched with the interest to the querying nodes, so that nodes can obtain specific information. As data is massive and nodes are resource constrained in the international network of things, it becomes a big challenge to design and implement such an efficient dissemination protocol. In this paper, we propose a novel quorum based protocol to deal with this issue. A connected dominating set is first constructed as the backbone. Massive data can be integrated according to some rules within the dominating nodes. Then a quorum based data dissemination method is applied based upon the backbone structure. Several variants are proposed to adjust the quorum system. The simulation results show their significant improvements on energy efficiency over the protocols that apply quorum methods based upon the grids.
