Coherent tunable FIR source

Abstract: The electron beam in a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and a diffraction grating placed in the focal regime of the SEM have been used to generate coherent tunable radiation in the FIR region of the spectrum. A brief survey of the basic theory governing the operation of the device and a summary of recent experimental results are presented. !10
