In this contribution pressed explosive charges based on FOX- 7 ( 1,1-diamino-2,2-dinitroethylene ) or RDX ( cyclo-1,3,5-trimethylene-2,4,6-trinitramine ) with similar particle sizes are investigated and their properties compared. Three binders are selected for the formulations: 1. Paraffin 2. EPM ( Ethylene-Propylene-Rubber) 3. Hy Temp ( Polyacryiate Elastomer) The explosive charges are compared by determination of thermodynamic properties, friction - and impact sensitivity, chemical stability, mechanical properties, detonation velocity and gap - test properties. The detonation velocities of all investigated formulations are in the range of 8200 m/s < v_(Det). < 8450 m/s. The GAP-Test results of charges based on FOX-7 show a significant insensitivity compared to charges containing RDX.
