Decoupling and linearizing control approaches are developed for a nonlinear system with a rotor of six degree-of-freedom supported by two radial magnetic bearings and an axial magnetic bearing without bias current through the coils. Nonlinear controllers based on dynamic feedback linearization are designed such that the strongly coupled rotor motion is reduced to six decoupled normalization linear subsystems that are five rotor displacements and rotor speed. The linearizied systems improve the transient responses of the system. Some simulations are employed, and satisfactory performance of the decoupled system is obtained.
