Measuring the Legitimacy of Innovations in Management

The ability to measure perceived legitimacy would be useful for identifying and effectively addressing potential barriers to adoption of managerial innovations. This paper 1) discusses the relevance of perceived legitimacy to adoption of managerial innovations, 2) reviews a conceptual framework for operationalizing perceived legitimacy, and 3) reports on the results of a survey that was administered to undergraduate business students as a pre-test, in preparation for a broader study that will attempt to evaluate whether student perceptions of the legitimacy of environmental sustainability (as an example of managerial innovation) increase after exposure to sustainability curricula.
