The model enabled us to run past and recent floodwaves and to analyse the effects of various interventions and those of the reservoirs. Several hundred model runs were carried out investigating different flood situations and design alternatives. It is envisaged that in the coming years and decades the discharge carrying capacity of River Tisza and its tributaries will further change, due to various interventions in the flooplain or in case of their absence due to natural processes. Consequently, the present calibration of the model should also be changed. And the water level decreasing effects of the reservoir operation will differ from the results of the present modelling. The parameters of the model should be updated considering the effects of the new interventions and the results of the new river channel surveys. In order to achieve this goal, the database should be continuously revised and maintained. The HEC-RAS model, connected to the hydrographic information system and to the gauge height and discharge forecasts, could form a base of a flood-time operating system of Tisza River.
