The comparative study of rainfall-runoff models is conducted by using the data from two different catchements. The objective of the present study is to examine the model capabilities, in which two rainfall runoff modules are employed. One is the Xinanjiang Model (XAJM) and another is the Wageningen Model (WAGMOD). They examined the complex interaction between rainfall, evaporation, soil moisture, groundwater storage and runoff. They have been successfully applied in many catchements with different soil type and land uses. For this comparative study, one Dutch flat plain basin and another China mountainous basin were selected to test models. Models results demonstrate that both can produce relatively satisfactory agreement between the calculated and recorded volumes of runoff as well as the hydrographs. However, XAJM is more robust and is more suited for the humid mountainous region, but WAGMOD is more capable for the small flat and permeable basin.
