Commercial Case for Newbuild Semisubmersible Based Production Systems for Marginal Ultradeepwater Field Developments

A majority of discovered reservoirs in deepwater Gulf of Mexico are 100 million barrels of oil equivalent or smaller.rnMany of these will not lend themselves to be developed as subsea tiebacks because of the unavailability of a hostrnplatform that is either close enough or with spare processing capacity to accommodate extra production. In manyrncases an Operator would prefer to build a local host facility and create a future hub, provided a compelling commercialrncase can be made. This requires the availability of a low cost, field-proven production platform that can be installedrnand producing hydrocarbons as quickly and reasonably as possible. This paper will make the case for a purpose builtrnsemisubmersible platform for developing these small deepwater fields.
