EO SERVICES FOR AGRICULTURAL APPLICATIONS: OVERVIEW OF ISAC SERVICES COLLECTION AND THEIR FIRST OUTCOMES

ISAC project aims to develop and demonstrate threerngeneric services for providing timely, objective andrndetailed information on crop growth and developmentrnand on crop damage due to extreme weather conditionsrnsuch as drought. The project thereby addresses thernneeds of the commercial insurance sector in Europe andrnthe food security sector in Africa (as input for earlyrnwarning and micro-insurances). To this aim imagesrnfrom optical high resolution (20-30m) satellite sensorsrnsuch as DMC/Deimos-1 and Landsat-TM/ETM+ arernused, whereas traditionally such services make use ofrnfrequently available medium to low resolution imagesrn(250m up to 1km). This communication provides arnmeaningful overview of the key aspects of ISACrnservices collection, namely its objectives, thernconsortium partners, the users, the main features of thernservices, including the service portfolio, as well as therndemonstration activities.
