RECOVER PROJECT TO SUPPORT REDD - FIRST RESULTS ON FOREST MONITORING FROM MEXICO

In the ReCover project under the Framework Program 7rnof the European Commission, beyond state-of-the-artrnservice capabilities are generated to support fightingrndeforestation and forest degradation in the tropicalrnregion. One of the five study sites is State of Chiapas inrnsouthern Mexico. Fifteen products that characterize thernstate of the forest and changes were delivered during thernfirst service stage.rnWall-to-wall mapping was performed for 1992, 1994,rnand 2009 using Landsat and RapidEye imagery. Thernoverall accuracy in forest and non-forest mapping was 88rn% in two independent data sets of field samples andrnvisually interpreted plots from Kompsat-2 images.
