The management of project and organisational knowledge is now recognised as a vital ingredient for competitive business performance in the construction industry. This can involve the management of knowledge within, and across projects, within individual firms, and across the supply chain involved in project delivery. This paper presents the initial findings of a research project, which is aimed at developing a viable framework for knowledge management in a multi-project environment, within a supply chain context. The background and methodology being adopted in the research are described, and case ('as-is') study results of current knowledge management processes within selected firms are discussed. The paper concludes with suggestions on the development of a framework for knowledge management.
