The development of micro-damage in various plastic deformation conditions has been reviewed and schematic diagrams are designed to illustrate the major types of damage mechanisms, which are compared with the corresponding microstructure examinations. Particularly, new types of damage mechanisms at high strain rate hot forming conditions are discovered from microstructural examinations and are presented in the paper.
