Figure 13 shows Ragone Plot of ultracapacitors and rechargeable batteries. Further improvement of the energy density, power density, and reliability of the capacitor must be done to realize automotive application of the ultracapacitors. Cost reduction of the capacitor is another essential problem. Development of novel materials for electrodes and electrolytes, and power electronics study for higher efficiency are significant. In the 21st century, we the ultracacitor-system with primary energy sources will play important roles in the automotive industry.
