An Approach to Understanding of Scientific and Technical Documents

Conversion of sentences into atomic formulas for understanding the scientific and tech-rnnical documents is discussed. A method for determining the sentence structure of simplernsentences without using semantic constraint explicitly is presented. This sentence struc-rnLure corresponds to atomic formula. The method determined 97% of the verb group ofrn2,408 simple sentences correctly, and identified 98% of the modifieant nouns of 17,128 rnnoun phrases.
