Simulation composition from reusable components offers significant benefits in terms of not only improving software productivity and quality but also providing flexibility to meet changing simulation requirements. Composing a target simulation to satisfy a set of requirements introduces major problems of component specification generation, selection, composition and adaptation of appropriate components as each application of a simulation system may require a unique combination of task-specific models, interfaces, data stores and analysis algorithms. This paper focuses on the problems of a) Component query generation given abstract simulation requirements, and b) Solution component selection and composition. The paper describes a constraint-based approach where simulation requirements captured as constraints on an application-specific architectural model are mapped to component query specifications which are then used to select and compose solution components.
