Design of filament-wound polymer matrix composite shield for jet engine fan blade containment

摘要

An effective design methodology was established for composite jet engine containment structures. The methodology included the development of reduced size prototypes, modeling of the containment structure, experimental and numerical examination of the modes of failure due to turbine blade out event, identification of materials and design candidates for future industrial applications.
