In mechanical engineering it is very important to control the lifetime of machinery parts. This is an important question in the car industry, as well as in the aircraft and airspace industry. The constructions are in general dynamically loaded, which is why we have to consider high-cycle fatigue behaviour. In this paper, the question will be discussed of how the lifetime of constructions in mechanical engineering can be increased by shape optimization.
