Wireless ad hoc networks offer mobile nodes the possibility of connecting to other ones. This is possible because each node operates as a router, forwarding packet towards neighbouring nodes. In this environment, routing is an essential issue and protocols with reactive or proactive nature have been proposed in literature. This work focuses on one of these protocols called Location Aided Routing (LAR). The introduction of new functionalities, such as the promiscuous listen mode and speed propagation among the mobile nodes is investigated. Promiscuity is power consuming but, its use in LAR, presents benefits of high data throughput even for high movement speed and both lower overhead and end-to-end data delay. This paper demonstrates that using optimisations of LAR protocol together with the promiscuous listen mode, it is possible to have significant improvements in protocol performances.
