Use of Large Stones as Cooarse Aggregates in Portland Cement Concrete Mixtures for Pavements

The objectives of this laboratory study were to investigate the relationship between the gradation of a coarse aggregate and the mechanistic advantages achieved by using larger top-size coarse aggregates. In addition, the feasibility of reducing the cement content in the concrete mixture was also investigated. Based on the laboratory trial mixtures, two field trial paving projects were initiated and the subsequent sections of this paper will summarize the findings from these test-paving projects.
