The asbestos remediation for wrap-andcutrnpiping in D&D applications for DoE is conservativelyrnestimated at $300 million complex-wide. The developmentrnof an automated system to separate the insulation from thernpipe, allowing for waste-volume reduction and wastesegregationrnis offered as a solution capable of saving DoErnbetween 20% and 40% of the total job cost in years torncome. The application to the industrial market segment isrneven larger and is expected to drive the commercialrnviability of the system. This paper presentes the systemrndesign for the development of PipeTaz, a system underrndevelopment with DoE SBIR Phase II funding.
