This paper deals with the development of an 80C196-based EV digital instrumentation carried at the Center for Electric Vehicles, Singapore Polytechnic. After a brief analysis of the functions necessary for EV instrumentation, this paper introduces the newly developed EV digital instrumentation on three aspects: construction structure, connection & measurement and main functions. Introduced as well is the algorithm, innovated by the development, for battery remaining capacity estimation. It is pointed out what is the measurement requirement for implementing the algorithm. The description explains the three main modules of the instrumentation with emphasis given to the innovative technologies applied in the implementation.
