An anammox-like process in the waste water treatment of the coke-chemical plant

With the purpose to improve the removal of nitrogen from the waste water of the coke-chemical plant a process of biological purification was studied in laboratory conditions and an opportunity of the nitrification-denitrification opposite to the classical one was shown. The process takes place in aerobic condition and without organic substrates. On the synthetic medium with ammonium ions and at the absence of organic substrates it is accompanied by decrease in ammonium concentration without accumulation of nitrite and nitrate in the medium and stimulated by addition of nitrate into the system.
