摘要

This paper is about the development and the implementation of a risk-cost model related to automation and mechanical failures, which allows a safety-design analyst to evaluate different technical solutions for tackling collision, grounding and striking events during the preliminary design phase of a high speed craft (HSC). This model follows a common approach developed within the European funded project "Safety at Speed" for assessing costs and risks related to specific configurations of design parameters that minimize the risk of these events at a convenient cost. The model allows to compare different design configurations for the mechanical and automation systems with respect to the expected performance in terms of risk mitigation versus costs. The comparison is carried out by estimating the variation of frequencies of occurrence for a specified design with respect to the "standard" or "basic" design.
