Powder metal components manufacturers faced with the rigorous demands of automotive gearing,sprocket and power transmission applications use sintering production furnaces after the compaction toachieve the desired level of static and fatigue performance. The properties resulting from the standardsintering and sinter-hardening process depend on the fundamental processing parameters. The effectof these parameters is crucial for the formation of the microstructure and consequently is a key factor indetermining the mechanical properties of the PM materials. In this presentation, the effect of thesintering parameters under production conditions on the microstructure and mechanical propertiesare discussed. The results were used to find possible interaction effects between the sinteringconditions and microstructure.
