Nanocomposite TiB_2/Fe-Mo powders were produced by mechanically assisted selfpropagatinghigh-temperature synthesis (SHS). Phase composition of the synthesized powdercomprises TiB_2, α-Fe solid solution and a small amount of Fe_2B and MoB_2. Grains size of titaniumdiboride is in the range of 80-500 nm. Molybdenum is identified both in the TiB_2 grains and in themetallic binder. The average microhardness of the powder depends on the boride relative content andincreases from 15 to 20 GPa with boride concentration in the range 60-80 wt.%. D-gun coatings inheritmicrostructure of the SHS-powder and contain, besides TiB_2, α-Fe based solid solution and Fe_2B, asmall amount of spinel oxides (Ti_2O_3 and FeTiO_3). The coatings exhibit high antifrictional propertiesand abrasion resistance.
